About Prep Harbor

A stronger food ecosystem starts with better infrastructure.

Independent food businesses depend on more than a great menu. Behind every service are the practical demands of preparation, storage, equipment, logistics, and a well-run workspace.

Prep Harbor is exploring a commercial kitchen and commissary home base for food trucks, caterers, bakers, and other independent food businesses across South Carolina’s Grand Strand. We are currently in market research and validation, listening to operators to understand their existing arrangements, everyday challenges, and infrastructure needs. Prep Harbor is not yet an operating facility.

Our Mission

The Home Base for Independent Food Businesses

To understand the infrastructure independent food businesses need—and use operator insight to shape a professional home base for the Grand Strand.

Our work begins with listening. Any future kitchen, commissary, storage, or support services will be shaped by market demand and feasibility.

The Experience Behind the Vision

About the Founder

A background in hospitality.
A practical understanding of operations.

Prep Harbor’s founder, Benjamin “Ben” Kerchner, is a U.S. Air Force veteran with a background in foodservice, hospitality management and operational leadership. He earned an Associate in Specialized Business in Hospitality and Restaurant Management from Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts – Pittsburgh in 2009.

During his Air Force service, Ben led foodservice teams, coordinated meal production and inventory, reinforced sanitation standards and contributed frontline operating knowledge to dining-facility modernization. His civilian experience spans centralized food production, retail food management, supplier relationships, industrial operations and publishing services.

That breadth informs a practical view of hospitality: people do their best work when the systems behind them work well. Through Prep Harbor, Ben is listening to independent food-business operators across the Grand Strand to understand their infrastructure needs before shaping a future commercial-kitchen and commissary concept.

Built From Operator Input

We’re listening before we build.

No opening date. No memberships for sale. No assumptions disguised as a business plan.

We’re speaking with Grand Strand operators about current arrangements, pain points, access, storage, parking and workflow so any future concept is grounded in what the market actually needs.

A Harbor Built to Grow With Its Operators

The Prep Harbor Vision

One mission. Multiple forms. Built around the infrastructure independent food businesses actually need.

The Prep Harbor Vision — All Forms, One Vision
Illustrative long-term concepts only. Future formats, services and locations depend on market demand, feasibility and development.

Operator Inquiry

Help shape what comes next.

If you operate—or are preparing to operate—an independent food business in the Grand Strand, we want to understand what would make your operation easier.

What this is: market research and an invitation to stay in touch.
What it isn’t: a membership, reservation, purchase or commitment.

Your name and email are required. Other answers are optional.

For market research only. Submitting an inquiry does not create a membership, reservation, purchase or commitment.
